Heat-flo had its’ Surveillance 2 audit of the ISO 9001:2015 quality system on October 1st. This type of audit is completed by an outside auditor and involves reviewing the quality system and how effective it is at making sure any defects are caught and repaired before the customer receives any product.
In 2014 Heat-flo, Inc. began producing all products with magnesium anode rods as a way to combat corrosion in aggressive water situations. The magnesium anode rods worked very well, as we expected, but they didn’t last as long as we felt they should and actually caused an annoying issue for the homeowner. That issue was a burst of air when the hot water was initially used after hours of being idle.
After much research it was determined the use of an aluminum anode rod will correct the burst of air problem most of the time, and they last longer. As a result of this research, we began producing products with the aluminum anode rod toward the end of 2020.

In an effort to continuously improve our products, Heat-flo upgraded their tank insulation during 2019 to a two-part urethane insulation. The two-part urethane insulation that is being used is a high R-value HFO based system that is free of HFCs. Heat-flo is ahead of the upcoming phase out of HFC based insulations that are required by California as of Jan. 2020, and by Canada as of Jan. 2021. The insulation has a global warming potential of 1 and an ozone depletion potential of 0. All tanks have been upgraded to R-16+ insulating value.
